During the late 1920's and again in 1948 the store suffered loss from fire, however, on neither occasion was the store burnt to the ground thanks to the efficiency of the Truro Fire Department.
Walkers, Established in 1890, a company that remembers kerosene lighting, horse & buggy deliveries and two world wars! Serving Truro and surrounding communities of Northern Nova Scotia for over 112 years, Service was and still is our number one goal!

1931 T.L. Legge, after working for the business since 1906, acquires Walkers after the death of Harry T. Walker.
1932 The first company truck is purchased and a modern brick & tile building join the original store, more than doubling store space. Walkers provide the first public restroom in Truro.
Circa 1940
Retail stores in Truro were closed at NOON on Wednesdays and opened till 10:30 pm on Saturday’s. Shoppers traveled by bus & rail to town. Ladies could leave their parcels in Walkers Rest Room during their visit!

T.L. Legge gives Walkers a second story for storage and a full basement. D.K. Legge begins working.

T.L. Legge passes away. Thelma E. Legge & Warren J. Legge begin working.
Circa 1980
Keith & Dorothy Legge each receive the Estwing “Gold Hammer Award”! More buildings are purchased for additional retail & warehouse.

Lynn is the Great Grandaughter of of Louis J. Walker, Grandaughter of Margaret E. Walker / Stephens McKay and daughter of Jean E. Stephens Tanner – Rich. While chasing her geneology tree Lynn decided to visit the store her great grandmother often talked about. We wish Lynn and her friends a memorable trip to Truro!
